Epoxy resin jewelry on display for a How to Make Resin Earrings tutorial.

Are you looking to add a little sparkle and shine to your life? To complete the perfect look with the perfect accessory? With epoxy resin, you can make durable resin earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, and more just like that! Every day, epoxy resin crafters are coming up with unique resin jewelry ideas to share with a community of creators that truly reflects their individual aesthetics.

You can make jewelry that suits your style, as a gift for friends and family, or to turn your hobby into a new side hustle. Encapsulate items, like with resin flower earrings, to turn them into wearable keepsakes, or combine resin with pieces of wood for something rustic. Embrace that cottage core lifestyle.

The options may not be literally endless, but we’re pretty sure they come close.

For earrings, the easiest approach requires a mold. You can actually make your own resin earring molds using products like Mold Putty from our friends at Incredible Solutions or Amazing Mold Maker from our friends at Alumilite. However, you can also choose to purchase premade molds from a variety of online stores or buy resin jewelry kits! The flexibility of this project makes it approachable for those with all levels of epoxy resin familiarity.

For now, we’re going to stick with a pre-purchased mold.

Follow along with our guide as we explain how to cast epoxy resin earrings from a premade mold and attach the necessary jewelry pieces. The mold we used includes a few different shapes for us to experiment with.

Let’s take a look at what tools you’ll need to begin.

How to Make Resin Earrings

What You Will Need:

  • Safety glasses
  • Gloves
  • Stir sticks/popsicle sticks
  • ProArt Epoxy Resin (Our pick as the best resin for jewelry!)
  • Dyes or colorants
  • Mixing/measuring cups
  • Jewelry mold
  • Jumps rings
  • Earring hooks

Before getting started with this resin earrings DIY, always make sure you have proper personal protective equipment on. In this case, we recommend wearing gloves and safety glasses.

First thing’s first, whether you have worked with resin before or not, you will want to read through the instructions. Our ProArt Epoxy Resin has a 1:1 by volume mix ratio, so keep that in mind when you’re measuring. Be sure to thoroughly mix the two components together slowly minimize bubbles and to ensure they’re fully combined.

Divide your pigment powder into different cups, one for each color. When adding your dyes or powders, you only have to use a little bit to get vibrant results. You can also add things like glitter and gold flakes for extra glamor!

Pour epoxy resin evenly into each cup. Make sure that each color has its own mixing stick so you don’t accidentally blend them, and stir until the colorants and epoxy have combined. In this case, we used Alumilite’s Polycolor resin powder, but any colorants of your choice can be added. The colors we used are Gold Metallic Dust and Bright Green.

Now, carefully pour your epoxy resin into the mold. For thin or delicate areas, you can use objects like toothpicks, syringes, or pipettes to help you get epoxy into all the nooks and crannies. You can then use a popsicle or stir stick to level off any excess resin in the molds.

Cautiously, use a torch or heat gun to get rid of any bubbles that rise to the surface. Don’t hold the torch too close, otherwise you risk burning both the resin and the mold.

Allow for the resin to cure for 24 to 72 hours in an environment free from dust or other contaminants.

Be careful when you remove the resin earrings from the mold once they are cured. Gently pry them free. However, resin should not stick to silicone molds, which is why they are the best choice! This is also why it can be useful to have tools and even mats made of silicone for easy cleanup.

You can use a pick tool, craft knife, or pliers to remove any excess resin—pliers are especially useful for removing the more stubborn pieces, and the pick tools are great for clearing out the holes that jump rings fit into.

Now it’s time to assemble your resin earrings!

First, separate your jump rings however you wish, although we find that using two pairs of pliers can be helpful.

Then, loop the jewelry through the jump ring before reconnecting it.

And there you have your final product—your custom-made resin earrings, crafted by your own hands. Wear or sell your masterpiece, or give it away as a gift!
