Plastic resin molds are inexpensive and easy to work with but may be easily scratched; whereas silicone molds are a bit more of an investment but will last longer with proper care. It is generally a bit easier to get brighter, shinier castings from silicone molds as they provide a bit smoother surface. In either case, castings may be touched up after molding with resin gloss sealer spray. Beginners may want to start with less expensive plastic molds and move on to a set of silicone molds once they’ve honed their craft.
